What is Folk Rock?

Folk rock is a musical genre that emerged in the mid-1960s and combines elements of traditional folk music with rock music. It typically features acoustic instruments such as guitar, banjo, mandolin, and fiddle, as well as electric instruments like bass guitar and drums.

Folk rock originated as a response to the increasing commercialization of folk music in the early 1960s, as well as the growing popularity of rock and roll. Musicians began to experiment with combining the two genres, resulting in a new sound that was both energetic and rooted in traditional folk melodies and storytelling.

Some of the most famous folk rock musicians include Bob Dylan, The Byrds, Joni Mitchell, Simon and Garfunkel, and Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. Folk rock had a significant impact on popular music in the 1960s and 1970s and has continued to influence artists across genres to this day.
