What is Psychedelic Rock?

Psychedelic rock is a music genre that emerged in the mid-1960s and is characterized by its use of psychedelic effects such as reverb, echo, and distortion, as well as unconventional song structures and lyrics that often explore altered states of consciousness, mystical experiences, and social and political issues.

In terms of musical influences, psychedelic rock draws heavily from the blues, folk, and rock and roll of the time, but often incorporates Eastern and Indian musical elements, as well as experimental techniques such as tape manipulation and electronic effects.

Some notable bands in the genre include The Beatles, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Pink Floyd, The Doors, and Jefferson Airplane, among many others. The popularity of psychedelic rock waned in the early 1970s, but the genre continues to influence contemporary music today.
